Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hey girls that run (or walk)! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas day. I did- it was a blast watching the kids open their presents. Yes I did do my 3 miles, but it was tough- I guess the scrambled eggs w/ cheese and cinnamon roll wasn't a good thing to eat before hand. I should have waited. None the less, I did train. I will not be able to join the training the next couple of weekends due to the fact I will be out on the deep blue sea. I WILL be thinking of you all as I run on the bow of the ship! I will be doing my training while I am away. Pray for me as I will for all of you.
Just think, our New Year Resolutions will not have to include "exercise" - We are already ahead of the game- who needs Resolutions anyways! Way to Go Girls!
And Cass you rock with countdown and the Bible verse- I love seeing your excitement and enthusiasm.
Happy New Year!

Always Walk With A Buddy

I just got off of the phone with my friend Joanna and she walks a lot at the park where we have been training on Saturday mornings. Her and her sister were there walking together and a man approached them and he was trying to kiss them and touch them and he grabbed her sister by the neck. Luckily a man and his daughter were riding by on their bikes and gave Joanna and her sister a chance to run away. She said that the man is in his mid 20's and didn't look like the creepy old man stereotype of someone who would hurt you. If you ever decide to go out alone make sure to carry pepper spray or some sort of protection and a cell phone. Your best bet is to always walk with a friend. She also said that a lot of cars get broken into at the PAL so don't forget to lock your doors while you are out on the trails.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Training at the park

I'm still kind of struggling to do the two miles and next week we are supposed to do 3 miles. I am so out of shape! I think I am going to go to the park on Monday and do the 2 miles again and then on Thursday go for 3 miles. Im just hoping it gets easier sooner than later. If anyone is interested in joining me let me know. I hope everyone is doing well with their training and if you are having a hard time getting motivated or need anything don't hesitate to call someone. I'm really trying not to focus on the fact that the race is 9.3 miles and just take it a week at a time because if I did focus on it I would talk myself into thinking that I wouldn't be able to do it at all.

I would like to see more people put posts on here telling everyone what is going on with your training and any ideas you have to make it more fun.

Weekly Runs

If anyone is interested in having a jogging buddy during the week let me know. I think it might be a good idea if we all have a buddy that we help to keep on track and check with them throughout the week to make sure they are doing their training and help keep them motivated. I had a great time this past Saturday and I am really excited that so many made it out. We only have one car right now so i'm praying that I will be able to make it to every meeting we have. I will definately try my best. Everyone have a great rest of the week and a magical Christmas!

Let's Get It Started

We are embarking on quite a mission. To train, sweat, run, walk, encourage, crawl, feel the burn, strengthen, bond, struggle, conquer and finally do the Gate in March!! We'll be going over 13,000 other athletes to be part of the 2008 Gate River Run. As we go through this process, we will develop the habit of worshipping God with our bodies. This blog has been set up to allow everyone the opportunity to share there feelings, struggles and words of encouragement with the group. Cassie found this verse and I think it is great one (it has many layers to it, I like layers) for us to meditate on and use as our key verse:

"I run in the path of your commands, for you have set me free." - Psalm 119:32

So let's get after it!! Follow your schedule and be sure you encourage one another. What and amazing feeling to cross that finish line on March 8th and know that you have just accomplished something great.
